GOLF ART: “Morning Shadows of the Old Course: The Sketch”

Hey there, fellow golf art enthusiasts! I am absolutely thrilled to share the incredible journey of creating my latest piece, “Morning Shadows of the Old Course.” As an Official Licensee of St Andrews Links, this project has been so exciting, and I’m excited to take you through the process, step by step.

Last summer, I had the privilege of witnessing a breathtaking sunrise overlooking the 18th hole of the legendary Old Course, with the charming town of St Andrews glistening in the background. Captivated by the moment, I knew I had to capture this mesmerizing view on a 5′ x 6′ canvas.

I laid out the initial design with a delicate charcoal undersketch. This foundational layer serves as the heart and soul of the painting, setting the tone for the entire artwork. While normally I immediately paint over this sketch, I fell in love with the delicate balance of detail and simplicity of the sketch. I loved it so much, I’ve decided to transform the undersketch into a stunning print for golf art collectors.

After the sketch was finished, I took high-quality photographs of the charcoal sketch, ensuring to capture every intricate detail.

The process of turning the under sketch into a print was such a fun journey. I aimed to maintain the original artwork’s authenticity while achieving the highest possible quality for the print. My focus was spent fine-tuning colors, contrast, and composition, bringing the image to life.

Recently I moved all print making in studio. This allows me to maintain full control over the final product. The choice of high-quality, archival fine art paper was paramount to preserve the integrity of the artwork during the printing process, adding an element of elegance and sophistication to this golf art.
